ASK THE OFFICIAL

warming up before a match
by Ireetennis

Q: What is the offical amount of time you get to warm up prior to match play?

A: The standard time allowed for most events is 5 minutes for the warmups. But this amount of time can be extended by an event you are playing in, as some events may allow 7 minutes for the first round match warmups or if there are no ball persons to help chase down balls during the warmups. But the warmup time is just that, you should not come to a match planning on useing the warmup time to work on a shot or your serve. The warmup should be used just to get moving by hitting a few of the various shots, baseline both forehand and backhands, volleys again forehand and backhands, overheads, and serves. Brian
