: Is there ever a situation where an offical can suspend or disallow a tennis match to be played, (tournament play only), where there apperars to be a large difference in playing abilities between the players? For instance, a 3.5 and a 4.5 playing against a 6.0 and a 3.0. It seems that a lower level player is in danger of being hurt in a serious tournament match against a higher level player. I have noticed that there a tournaments where the levels are not even. Can an offical end a match where someone might actuall be injured? And, is this type of tournament safe for a lower level player like myself?A
: Kim, I think you are asking about a "Combined Rating Tournament" where the combined ratings of both players on the same team are totaled for the team rating. Such as the combined ratings of a 3.5 women and a 5.5 man totals a 9.0 level team and they will play in the 9.0 division. There has been some injuries to the lower level player of a team caught not moving out of the way of a return of a short overhead by the opposing team. But for the most part this is how this type of event is played. A blatant repeated targeting and hitting of a opposite team member by one team could be coded as unsportmenship like conduct.
